LAJORS Series Heats Up!

The 2008 LAJORS Criterium Seris heated up at race #3 in Olympia. The Capitol Criterium is a great venue located right in front of the Washington State Capitol. The Oh Boy Oberto/Redline-Lapierre Juniors showed up ready to flex thier muscles! The race of the day was the Junior A/B race. A good field of juniors showed up and as usual it was a RAD vs. Oberto affair. On lap 3, Oh Boy Oberto/Redline-Lapierre's Bryen Graver launched a massive attack. Bryen gained a good gap and put his head down and pushed himself hard! RAD Racing went to the front and tried multiple times to bring Bryen back but just didn't have the horse power. Bryen eventually pushed his gap to around a minute and the race was over. Back in the field the Junior B guys were fighting it out for those podiums. RAD Racing continually put on attacks trying to get a rider away to take the B race. Tem Oh Boy Oberto/Redline-Lapierre wouldn't have any of it and kept the field together. With 1 lap to go, Wes Finger and Jonathan Youell launched a massive attack and broke away finnishing 2nd and 3rd in the A's. RAD Racing took the 3 B podiums with Scott Carlyle and Clint Anderson bringing it home for the Oberto team. Bryen "The Gravemeister" Graver powers away to a solo victory in the Junior A/B Capitol Criterium!

Colin Races Lapierre to a Second Win.

Colin rides the Lapierre X-Race 300 to another victory in the 2nd round of the Black Diamond Bike - West Side Mtn. Bike Series on Sunday. The Junior Sports had to start behind the 40+ Sports this week so traffic was a factor. "Once I got past all those old guys, (Jerry and my Dad), I was really able to put the full suspension to work", Colin said. "The X-Race rolled over the roots and rocks with no problems". "hopefully for the next round, we will be albe to start with the 19-29 group", Colin said. The 3rd round of the BuDu series is again at Black Diamond, March 2nd, which is also the same day as the Icebreaker TT , just down the road at Flaming Geyser State Park. Looks to be a busy day for those that want to do both races. The Lapierre also gathered lots of attention at the Colonnade Trail in downtown Seattle under I-5.

A nice ride to Kortrijk

Today, we rode out to Kortrijk hunting for bakeries. The roads were calm and completely flat on the way out. Once we got there we rode through the streets hunting for cinnamon rolls. We came up empty handed but were able to encounter most of the scenery that the town had to offer like this church. Most of the streets in Kortrijk are cobbled and very skinny. The buildings are almost all stone and home to many stores, coffeehouses, and bakeries. After hanging around the town square for a while we decided to head back to Izegem via the canal. This proved to be an excellent decision since we found many entertaining things to do on the way back. Two of the more memorable were a slanted stone wall beneath a bridge and some interesting metal pieces. Both took the enjoyment of the ride to a whole new level.

First Update From Belgium

I finally got a chance to sit and write so here is my first late update from Belgium. So far we have done three races, two smaller races and a world cup. The first race was in Laarne and the second was in Balegem. Both were fun and completely different from racing in the US. The course in Laarne was out in a cornfield through tractor ruts and paths. It ended up being quite bumpy due to the freezing temperature. The race was fast and conveniently

Portland GP Race Report by Bryen Graver

Up until now I have been doing the local races, the ECC series races. Good races as they have been, I don't think they came close to preparing me for what was to come of my first major race before nationals. The forecast on Friday showed snow flurries at around 10:00am. Wind up quite a bit with a high of 36. That didn't quite register in my mind I don't think. I came prepared, but not that prepared. On Friday in my P.E. class, we did a stairs workout. Apparently the record was 25 laps. Personally, I like to break records, even if I know that I have a big bike race I want to do well in the next two days. So I cranked out 22. Big mistake as so proved the weekend.

Oh Boy Oberto/Redline Smackdown at Portland USGP of Cyclocross

Colin Krebsbach and Avi Mahan had back-to-back first and third places at the USGP of Cyclocross in Portland, Oregon this weekend. This is Colin’s race report.Saturday was the coldest temperature wise but Sunday was wet and it felt colder. Saturday I was able to get a great front row starting position and followed Avi and Zach Gould (2nd at Nationals last year against Logan Owen) into the first corner. Five minutes into the race I attacked and never looked back. Even though it was not too muddy, it still stuck to my bike and by the last lap I went for a bike change and rode it into the finish line for first place.Sunday was rainy, super muddy, and super fun! The mud wasn’t sticky but it was soupy. For an unknown reason they gave the junior women front row starts. When the race started it seemed like they have never ridden a bike because it took them forever to get going and forever for me to get around them. I was way off the back and it seemed like I would never get back to the front. Zach Gould was out of sight for most of the race. I finally caught back up to Avi and we worked together to get back to the front. On the third lap I caught Zach and decided to stick on his wheel to recover. Before the barriers, on a super muddy hill, I decided to run up while Zach tried to ride. It was a faster move an I took the lead and didn’t look back. After passing the pits there was a u-turn where I could see that I had a good gap, so I put the hammer down on the last lap I rode in for a solo-victory.By beating one of my main competitors for Nationals, I feel even better about Kansas City.-Colin Krebsbach

Oh Boy Oberto/Redline Strikes Gold at Washington State Cyclocross Championships

Christina Norwich and Colin Krebsbach won gold medals at the Washington State Cyclocross Championships held at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Silverdale, Sunday November 18th. Austin Clevenger also brought home some precious medal for the Oberto/Redline team by collecting a bronze medal.Christina took the gold medal in the Cat 4 Women’s race with a convincing victory over Molly Martin, silver, and Ashley Cattell, for the bronze medal. In the Junior Boys 13/14 race, Colin Krebsbach won the gold medal with a victory over on Logan Owen. Colin passed Logan just before entering the woods and by the time he exited the woods, he had a 30 second lead over all of the Juniors. Logan was never able to make up the deficit and finished in second to take the silver medal. Austin Clevenger kept the pressure on Logan to take the bronze medal. Avi Mahan had a great race to take fourth place.

Wes Furlong Competes in Triathlon Worlds

The race day didn’t seem promising. It had been raining for most of the last three days and Sunday was to be the wettest of all. The five-thirty alarm seems a long time away when nerves get you up at four, turning and tossing, restlessly in bed, every time you think about the race a wave of nervous nausea grips you. This is ITU Age Group World Championships, not a state championship or even USAT Nationals. This is so much bigger. The thought comes across your mind: “Do I really belong here? Am I good enough to deserve this?” You have to rationalize with yourself at four in the morning. “Of course I deserve this, I’m here. If I wasn’t good enough I wouldn’t be in Hamburg Germany.”

FIVE Washington State Junior Tour Champions for Team Oh Boy Oberto/Redline

The Washington State Tour Championship is a series of junior road races that starts in April and ends in early September. This race series encompasses 13 races that are held across the state. During the entire road season, the cyclists compete for points that are totaled at the end to determine the overall winner. In many of the groups, the final overall winner was not going to be determined until the outcome of the final race. Everyone was anxious to get out and race the last race to see who would stand on the podium and spray the crowd with sparkling cider and wear the winner’s jersey. The racers compete in road races, time trials, omniums (combined road, criterium, and time trial), criteriums (races through the city streets) and a grueling hill climb in the Cascade Mountains. Again this year, the championship had a strong showing from many riders in each of the brackets (10-12 yrs women/men, 13-14 yrs w/m, 15-16 yrs w/m, and 17-18 yrs w/m).Team Oh Boy Oberto/Redline was battling in every category for the top step and when the flag dropped on the final race, Oh Boy Oberto/Redline had 5 riders in Champions jerseys.

With many of us getting up at 5:00AM to make the drive, we were suprized to find Ryan Bibko on hand to cheer on his team mates.
BYRDS Tour of Idaho 'Best of the West' Scorcher

Six Oh Boy Oberto Redline juniors competed in the BYRDS Tour of Idaho in Boise, July 27-29. The weather in Boise hovered in the 100's, climbing to 105 during some of the races. Riders did well to get plenty of hydration, carry plenty of fluids, and shower themselves with douses of water before, during, and after each race. The race format was based on cumulative time. The 15-17's raced five stages, and the 10-14's raced three. This was a first look at regional competition from Western states such as Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Oregon, California, and even Alaska! The team walked away with four podium finishes in the over-all. Results, Team Album, Pro Photos.
